This is the shortest page in the shop, and that is the whole point of it. There are more than four hundred prints in the catalogue, which is wonderful if you already know what you are looking for and paralysing if you do not. So I keep a list of nine — one piece from each corner of the studio — and I change it by hand as the work changes.
What is actually on this page?
Nine pieces, spread deliberately wide: a green eucalyptus trio, a terracotta desert sun, a colourful Frida Kahlo set, blue tropical leaves, a mid-century geometric trio, a sun-and-moon pair, a navy botanical trio, a single eucalyptus study and one woman with flowers for a head. Botanical, boho, mid-century, floral and abstract are all represented, because this list is meant to be a cross-section of the shop rather than a single mood. Everything here is a print-and-ship piece on matte paper, unframed, in all seven sizes from 5x7 in (12.7 x 17.8 cm) up to 16x20 in (40.6 x 50.8 cm).
Why are most of them sets rather than single prints?
Seven of the nine are sets — six trios and one pair — and that is not an accident of the list, it is what I reach for when somebody asks me where to start. A single print asks you to get the size, the height and the position right on an empty wall. A set of three makes most of those decisions for you: the pieces are painted to sit together, they arrive in one size, and three of them fill a stretch of wall that one would look lost on. A trio runs about CA$38 to CA$124 depending on the size, the pair about CA$26 to CA$84, and the two singles about CA$14 to CA$47.
What should I do if nothing here is quite right?
Treat this page as a door rather than a destination. If the trios are what appeal, the full sets of three page is far bigger, and sets of two is the right place to look for a narrower wall, or for a pair either side of a mirror. If it is the warm, earthy half of this list you keep coming back to, that whole language lives in boho wall art. Nothing leaves the shop when it leaves this list — it simply goes back to its own collection.
